
You will be able to use your new pass on all Go North East buses except our Night Buses and special services put on to serve events such as Great North Run or Sunderland International Airshow. These buses have their own special fares.
Free travel times
You can start using your new concessionary travel
pass on our buses from Tuesday, 1 April.
From that date, you can travel free by showing your pass from 0930 on Monday to Friday and all day at weekends and on Bank Holidays. Extra travel benefits are available in some areas and are summarised on the page opposite.
Extra travel benefits are available in some areas
All pass holders receive the national travel entitlement, which allows free travel after 0930 Monday to Friday and
all day at weekends and on Bank Holidays anywhere in England. The following areas have choosen to fund extra
benefits which may allow you to travel free outside of these hours within your local area as shown below:
Tyne and Wear
Holders of Nexus “All Day” disabled concessionary travel passes can travel free on all buses
within Tyne and Wear before 0930.
Holders of Nexus concessionary travel passes who can show a valid hospital appointment card or letter can travel free with a concessionary pass before 0930 on the day of the appointment to get to the hospital and return afterwards.
If you live in Tyne and Wear and are eligible disabled, you may have been issued with a
disabled concessionary pass marked ‘with companion’. This entitles both you and a travelling
companion to travel together free of charge. Your companion cannot use your pass on their
own.
County Durham
Holders of Durham concessionary travel passes can travel free on buses before 0930 when the
journey starts within County Durham.
If you live in County Durham and are eligible disabled, you may have been issued with a
disabled concessionary pass marked ‘with companion’. This entitles both you and a travelling
companion to travel together free of charge. Your companion cannot use your pass on their
own.
Northumberland (Blyth Valley, Wansbeck, Castle Morpeth, Alnwick, Tynedale)
Holders of concessionary travel passes issued by Northumberland authorities can travel free on
buses from 0900 on Monday to Friday when the journey starts within Northumberland.
If you live in Northumberland and are eligible disabled, you may have been issued with a
disabled concessionary pass marked ‘with companion’. This entitles both you and a travelling
companion to travel together free of charge. Your companion cannot use your pass on their own.
Tees Valley (Stockton, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland, Darlington)
Holders of concessionary travel passes issued by the Tees Valley authorities can travel free on
buses before 0930 when the journey starts within Tees Valley.
If you live in Tees Valley and are eligible disabled, you may have been issued with a disabled
concessionary pass marked ‘with companion’. This entitles both you and a travelling
companion to travel together free of charge. Your companion cannot use your pass on their own.
Other councils may offer extra travel benefits on top of those available under the national scheme. To check for any schemes operating in your area, contact your local council.
Show your pass
You must show the driver your pass as you get on
the bus. The driver will give you a ticket which you
should keep for your whole journey. You will be
expected to show your pass and your ticket to any
inspector carrying out checks on the bus. Normal
fares will be charged if you cannot prove your
eligibility to the free concession by producing your
pass.
