We're making some changes to some of our routes in North Tyneside from 15 January in response to customer feedback and changes to travel patterns.
Our changes in summary
- North Tyne links 85/86 withdrawn and replaced between
- North Shields, Meadowell & Norham Road North with Service 310
- Westminster Avenue, North Tyneside Hospital & North Shields with Service 80
- New York, North Tyneside Hospital & Whitley Bay - Service 309
- Whitley Bay, Cullercoats, Tynemouth & North Shields with Service 1
- Evening service extended on Coaster 1 to Whitley Bay
- Citylink Night Bus N58 operating via Heaton and terminating at Hadrian Park
- Extra Cobalt Clipper 310 buses early mornings and evenings

Coaster 1 Whitley Bay-North Shields-Wallsend-Newcastle-Gateshead
Evening buses will now operate the full route between Whitley Bay and Gateshead so that customers will no longer need to change buses in North Shields. During shopping hours on Sundays buses will operate every 20 minutes. Buses continue to operate every 15 minutes during the daytime on Mondays to Saturdays.
17/17A Whitley Bay-North Shields-Wallsend-Benton-ASDA-Cramlington
There are no changes to services during the daytime on Mondays to Saturdays with buses operating every 20 minutes. A small number of late evening journeys funded by Nexus on service 17 between Holy Cross and Benton ASDA have been cancelled by Nexus and will no longer operate. On Sundays buses will continue to operate but will be operated by another bus company. Call 0871 200 2233 for details.
Citylink 58 Hadrian Park-Newcastle-Gateshead-Heworth
The busy Citylink 58 will be operated by bigger “bendy” buses giving customers more room on this busy service. The buses are still gold and the timetable will remain the same except for minor changes to the times of buses in the early morning and early evening on Monday to Saturdays.
Citylink N58 Hadrian Park-Newcastle-Gateshead-Heworth
The night bus service that operates on Saturday night/Sunday morning will operate via Heaton providing students living in this area with a late night bus service and an extra journey at 0415 from Newcastle. The service will no longer operate to Whitley Bay.
North Tyne Links 80 North Shields-North Tyneside Hospital-Cobalt-Wallsend
Buses continue to operate every 30 minutes during the daytime on Monday to Saturday, with an improved service in the morning for workers at Cobalt. In New York buses will run via Westminster Avenue and Norham Road North, maintaining a service along Westminster Avenue in place of services 85 & 86.
North Tyne Links 85/86 North Shields-North Tyneside Hospital-Whitley Bay-North Shields
These services are replaced by the following Go North East bus services:
- between North Shields, Meadowell & Norham Road North - Service 310
- between Westminster Avenue, North Tyneside Hospital & North Shields - Service 80
- between New York, North Tyneside Hospital & Whitley Bay - Service 309
- between Whitley Bay, Cullercoats, Tynemouth & North Shields - Service 1
For customers in Monkseaton and The Broadway area of Tynemouth alternative buses will be operated by another bus company. Call Traveline on 0871 200 2233 for details.
Cobalt Clipper 310 North Shields-Meadowell-Cobalt-Battle Hill-Newcastle
Additional buses will operate in the early morning on Monday to Saturday between Norham Road and North Shields, and every evening between North Shields, Meadowell, Norham Road and Cobalt partly replacing withdrawn services 85/86.
91 West Chirton-Battle Hill-High Farm-Wallsend-Walker-Newcastle-Team Valley
This early morning service is retimed to operate 8 minutes earlier to arrive into Newcastle City Centre at 0530.
