We are making some changes to services in North Tyneside and South Northumberland from 30 March, including a large investment in new buses, enhanced frequencies and improved routes in the area. In particular we have worked in consultation with Cobalt Business Park to improve links for our passengers traveling to work.

Citylink

Hadrian Park – Battle Hill Drive – High Farm – Coast Road – Newcastle City Centre – Gateshead – Deckham – Felling Square – Leam Lane Estate – Heworth

Citylink 58 is a new service with its own special branding. The sleek, new Mercedes-Benz buses will offer passengers the highest level of comfort with climate control, low floors and powered ramps for easy access. They’re kind to the environment too, operating with Euro5 engines which keep exhaust emissions to a minimum.

Citylink will provide direct links to Newcastle City Centre and Gateshead and frequent services will run from early morning until early evening on Monday to Saturday, with buses running half hourly in the late evening.

All evening buses will also serve King’s Road, High Farm and Station Road North to maintain link to the Coast Road and Newcastle City Centre. On Sundays, buses will run every 20 minutes until early evening and every half an hour in the late evening.

Travelling from Newcastle city centre to Gateshead and Heworth:
Buses will leave from Sandyford Road, John Dobson Street, New Bridge Street and Pilgrim Street.

Travelling from Newcastle city centre to Hadrian Park:
Buses will leave from Cale Cross House/Tyne Bridge sliproad, Pilgrim Street, John Dobson Street and Sandyford Road.

The new Citylink 58 will provide good connections from Gateshead Interchange with buses to Team Valley, MetroCentre, Sage and Baltic, Gateshead College, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Washington, Sunderland and many parts of County Durham.

Coaster 1 and 2

We are giving both services new routes and timetables, so that they can provide direct links from the coastal resorts and towns in North Tyneside and along the north bank of the river and to the south Gateshead suburbs.

Coaster 1 will run between Whitley Bay Bandstand and Gateshead Interchange, then continue via Low Fell and Allerdene to Kibblesworth. 

Coaster 2 will run from Northumberland Square in North Shields to Market Street in Newcastle, and then continue via Gateshead, Low Fell, Allerdene and Harlow Green Estate to Wrekenton.

Travelling from Newcastle city centre:
Heading to Kibblesworth or Wrekenton, both services will leave from Pilgrim Street, outside Maplin Electronics. Heading towards North Shields and Whitley Bay, both services will leave from Market Street East, outside Market Street Police Station.

Travelling from Gateshead centre:
Both services will leave from Gateshead Interchange, Jackson Street and the south end of High Street.

Frequency:
Monday to Saturday daytime
Coaster 1 and 2 will each run half-hourly, but combine to give a service every 15 minutes between North Shields, Wallsend, Byker, Newcastle, Gateshead and Low Fell.

Monday to Saturday evening and all day Sunday
Coaster 1 and 2 will each run hourly. In addition, Coaster 2 will run to and from Whitley Bay to combine with Coaster 1, providing a half-hourly frequency between Whitley Bay Bandstand, Tynemouth, North Shields, Wallsend, Byker, Newcastle, Gateshead and Low Fell. Coaster 1 will then continue to Kibblesworth and Coaster 2 will continue to Wrekenton resuming their hourly frequency.

Between Walkergate Metro and Shields Road in Byker, Coaster 1 and 2 will have a new route via Sutton Street and Fossway to serve Brough Park Stadium, Shopping City and B&Q.

Other buses serving Whitley Bay, Tynemouth and North Shields include Centurion 75, 85, 76 and 86. These services run every 15 minutes on Monday to Saturday daytime and every half an hour in the evening and on Sunday.

Blyth – Whitley Bay – North Tyneside Hospital – Cobalt – Coast Road – Newcastle

 

Great news for passengers of our Cobalt Clipper 309 – we’re doubling the frequency! Our popular Cobalt Clipper 309 will run every 15 minutes during the day on Monday to Saturday, giving an even better service for travelling to work, to the shops or to enjoy your leisure time. Buses will also run every 30 minutes during the evening and on Sunday.

 

The service provides great links from Newcastle city centre, the Coast Road and Whitley Bay town centre to The Links and Whitley Bay Holiday Park and daily evening buses also serve Battle Hill Drive to give half-hourly links to Newcastle, Whitley Bay and Blyth.

 

The new route will run via the new Cobalt South Bus Link instead of New York Way, to give a faster service to Cobalt and Silverlink Business Park. Passengers wishing to travel to the eastern parts of Middle Engine Lane and Silver Fox Way should take services 75 and 76.

 

Services 1, 75, 76, 85 and 86 provide good connections to and from Cullercoats and Tynemouth in Whitley Bay town centre for passengers travelling from Blyth, South Beach, Seaton Sluice, Old Hartley, Whitley Bay Holiday Park and The Links.

Services 315 and 316 are changing to Centurion 75 and 76

North Shields - Whitley Bay – Monkseaton - Hadrian Park – Battle Hill – High Farm – Coast Road – Newcastle

The bus numbers 315 and 316 will change to Centurion 75 and 76 and run to new timetables and have a new half-hourly Sunday daytime service between Battle Hill Drive, High Farm and Newcastle.

The route is also being changed and will no longer serve Hadrian Park and Westminster Avenue. Links between Hadrian Park and Newcastle via the Coast Road will be provided by the new, frequent Citylink 58 running to and from Sandyford Road, John Dobson Street and Pilgrim Street. This service also gives direct links to Gateshead.

Centurion 75 will run via Battle Hill Drive, Middle Engine Lane, Norham Road North then follow the existing anti-clockwise circular route via Verne Road, North Shields, Tynemouth, Whitley Bay, Monkseaton and North Tyneside Hospital to Brooklands Terrace in New York. It will then continue via New York Road, Silver Fox Way, the new Cobalt South Bus Link, Middle Engine Lane (West) and Battle Hill Drive.

Centurion 76 will run via Middle Engine Lane (West), the new Cobalt South Bus Link, Silver Fox Way and New York Road to Brooklands Terrace in New York, then follow the existing clockwise circular route via North Tyneside Hospital, Monkseaton, Whitley Bay, Tynemouth, North Shields and Verne Road, then Norham Road North, Middle Engine Lane and Battle Hill Drive.

Centurion 75 and 76, and Cobalt Clipper 309 will give a frequent service between Coast Road/Station Road junction and Newcastle Haymarket as well as serving parts of Silverlink and Cobalt Business Parks.

We are introducing new, frequent circular Wallsend Links 40, 40C, 41 and 41C to replace service 305 journeys between Wallsend, Rosehill, High Howdon, Hadrian Park, Battle Hill Drive, High Farm and Station Road North.

Wallsend Links 40 and 40C will run via Station Road, High Farm, Battle Hill Drive, Coniston Road, Ridley Avenue, Tynemouth Road and Rosehill. New service 40 will run via Hadrian Park and new service 40C will provide links to Cobalt Park via the new Cobalt South bus link.

Wallsend Links 41 and 41C will run via Rosehill, Tynemouth Road, Ridley Avenue, Coniston Road, Battle Hill Drive, High Farm and Station Road. New service 41 will run via Hadrian Park and new service 41C will provide links via the new Cobalt South bus link to the Cobalt Park.

Our new Citylink 58 along with Centurion 75 and 76 will provide frequent links from Hadrian Park, Battle Hill Drive, High Farm and Station Road North to Newcastle via the Coast Road.

Connections from Wallsend Links with buses to Newcastle are provided by Coaster 1 and 2 from Ridley Avenue, travelling via Wallsend and Byker, or from Battle Hill Drive for Citylink and Centurion 75 and 76 travelling via the Coast Road.

Pink Panther 81
Holy Cross - Wallsend - Redesdale Park - Benton ASDA - Cramlington

Services 81, 319 and 321 will be replaced by Pink Panther 81

Monday to Saturday daytime services:
Pink Panther 81 will run every 20 minutes on Monday to Saturday daytimes between Holy Cross, Wallsend Metro and Forum Shopping Centre, West Street, Redesdale Park and Benton ASDA. Buses will run every hour to and from Forest Hall, Killingworth, Burradon, Dudley and Cramlington.

Monday to Saturday evening and Sunday services:
Buses will run every half an hour between Holy Cross, Wallsend town centre, West Street, Redesdale Park and Benton ASDA. Buses will run hourly to and from Forest Hall, Killingworth, Burradon, Dudley and Cramlington.

Passengers travelling from Bawtry Court, Broomfield Avenue and Warkworth Avenue areas will be able to use the Nexus Link Up and service 399.

Wallsend – W
est Street – Redesdale Park – Coast Road – Newcastle

This service will be replaced by the new Pink Panther 81 between Wallsend town centre, West Street, Station Road North and Redesdale Park. The Pink Panther 81 will run every 20 minutes during Monday to Saturday daytimes and every half an hour in the evening and on Sunday.

Passengers from West Street, Dorset Avenue, Lincoln Avenue, Cross Avenue and Wensleydale Drive who are travelling to or from Newcastle should take service 81 to the Coast Road/Station Road junction and change to Citylink 58 or services Centurion 75, 76 or Cobalt Clipper 309 which all run frequently via the Coast Road.

Service 318
Ashington – Stakeford – Bedlington Station – Cramlington (High Pit) – Backworth – Cobalt – North Tyneside College

A new route and timetable is being introduced. Buses will run between Ashington and Cobalt Park via Stakeford, Bedlington Station, Bedlington, Cramlington (Parkside and High Pit), East Cramlington, Seaton Delaval and Shiremoor.

Passengers for North Tyneside College can catch Wallsend Links 41C from Cobalt Park and return to the Business Park on service 40C. Both services run via the Cobalt South Bus Link.

Other service changes in brief…

Services 325 and 326 North Shields – Whitley Bay circular
The bus numbers will change to services 85 and 86. The buses will run at new times and give a combined service every 15 minutes with services 75 and 76 (currently services 315 and 316) along common sections of the route.

Go North East and Northumbria Buses services 9, 9A, Route 19, 331, 332, 333, 391, 392, X42 and X43 will continue to run unchanged

Service 308
Blyth – Whitley Bay – North Tyneside Hospital – Billy Mill – Coast Road – Newcastle

New timetables will be introduced for Monday to Saturday daytime journeys and be provided by Northumbria Buses. Monday to Saturday evening and Sunday journeys provided by Go North East are being replaced by new journeys on Cobalt Clipper 309.

Service 317
Whitley Bay – North Tyneside Hospital – North Shields – Percy Main – Wallsend

The bus number will change to service 17 and there will be minor timetable changes to evening and Sunday bus times.

Service 340
Wallsend – Station Road – High Farm – Battle Hill Drive – Hadrian Park

This service will be replaced by the new, frequent Wallsend Links 40, 40C, 41 and 41C.
