Delayed fare increases introduced in North Tyneside

Cash fares on Go North East buses in North Tyneside are set to increase from Sunday, June 29 in line with increases introduced on all other Go North East buses earlier this year.

The fare increases are being brought in as a result of rising fuel costs and were delayed in North Tyneside because they fell in April when changes were being made to local services.

Martin Harris, Commercial Director with Go North East said, “We wanted to give our North Tyneside passengers time to adjust to the service changes before introducing changes to fares too.  Even after the increases, our buses still provide great value for money and, as the cost of fuel continues to rise, provide many people with a cheaper travel alternative to using their own cars.”

Fare increases will vary, but generally single fares up to £1.50 will increase by 10p each journey,; single fares up to £3 will increase by 20p each journey while those costing £3 or over will either remain at £3 or increase to the nearest round figure to cost either £3.50 or £4.

The revised fares have given Go North East the opportunity to simplify prices and, from the date of the increases, most fares will be charged in increments of 10p. This makes cash fares easier to understand and reduces the amount of time spent giving change, speeding up boarding times.
