Bus tickets straight to your smartphone

Buzzfare, Get Around and Route Saver tickets are also available to buy on your smartphone with our new free key mobile app.

Tickets are easy to buy and can be used straight away or saved for future trips.

The key mobile is a free app for iphone and android smartphones. Just search for key mobile or Go North East in the Apple App store or Android Market.

Tickets available with the key mobile app

  • Buzzfare 1, 7 and 28 day
  • Get Around 1, 7 and 28 day (You must also have a valid Get Around key card)
  • All weekly route savers
  • Buzzfare Family Day Ticket (valid for up to two adults and three children in a group containing 1 or 2 adults and at least 1 child under 16)

Full details of the app

Signing up and logging in

  • On thekeymobile home screen, you will see an icon for M-tickets. Tapping this you will be prompted to download the Go North East M-tickets app. You only need to do this once.
  • The first time you use this you will be asked to create a new account, you can do this by tapping the blue box, where you will be asked for your name, email address, mobile number and your 4 digit pin number. After this you simply tap the sign up button at the top. Once you have registered for the first time, these details will not be asked for again. You can either stay logged in on your account, or you can log out and enter your mobile number and 4 digit pin the next time you log in.

Buying your M-ticket

  • Buying the M-ticket is easy. Once you have choosen the best ticket for you, simply choose the one you want and follow the process through by adding the ticket to your basket and tapping “complete”.
  • You will see a summary of M-tickets that you have selected. You can remove any that you don’t want. When you are ready, choose a payment card, or register a new one and enter the security code from the back of the card. Finally, tap “Complete” to make the payment to get your ticket.
  • When the payment has been taken, the app will tell you that your M-ticket is ready to use. You now have the option to use the M-ticket now, or to activate it at a later date.

Activating your M-ticket

  • To activate a purchased ticket, just select this in your list and press “Activate Now”. You will be asked again, just to make sure you want to activate the M-ticket now.
  • Once activated, you will see a animated randomly generated security code with details of the M-ticket. This is what you show to the driver when boarding on the bus.
  • Depending on the ticket you have bought, you will also see when the ticket expires.

Managing your tickets and account

  • You can see a list of your available tickets at any time. On iPhone, choose “Your Tickets” from the bottom of the screen and on Android devices, press the menu button, then “Your Tickets”
  • In this section you see what tickets you have, including purchased tickets, activated tickets and tickets that have expired. Expired tickets are retained for a minimum of 30 days for reference.

Peace of mind

  • Your payment details are stored in a secure form on your phone, with the means to decrypt them kept elsewhere. Should you lose your phone, there is NO way to tie your payment details back to your account.

  • The payments are processed using Secure Trading, a Level One provider. This is the very highest level under the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard.

  • We’ve some great deals and offers to help you get the best value for money on your bus travel. You can also top up your key smartcard online

Search RouteRoute Search

  • If you know either the bus number or the name of the route, such as Red Arrows, enter this into the search.
  • This shows the route and journeys. You can select the journey to get timetable information.
  • You also have the option to display the route on a map or to locate your nearest bus stop!
  • Once you've got your route, you can see how well it is running.  We will display a green "good service" or "advisory" so you can see at a glance.

Find a stop

  • Find your nearest bus stop using your phone. Just select use my current location and the app will show you your nearest bus stops from where you are standing!
  • You can also enter a search by place name, post code or using the reference code displayed on the bus stop. This is generally situated on bus stop information.
  • After the result are shown you have a couple of options to either view the next departures or navigate on the map, or selecting the bus stop marker.

Stored favourites

  • Once you have used the app a few times, you can set up favourites for either the route or the bus stop that you use the most.

News Feeds

  • This is where you can see live updates in real time about your journey. So, if there is a problem, such as roadworks on a route, we'll tell you here. You will find a note of this in the route section.
  • This is where you can find out the latest news about Go North East and our services, or the live updates that we give out in real time on anything that may be affecting your journey. So say if we know there will be roadworks on a route, Ticketing information
  • There are quick links to our website giving the best options for you to travel with Go North East.
